It is always recommended for individuals
to take a basic CPR course even if their employer does not require it
because it provides life saving skills for only a few hours of time. If
you have an elderly grandparent or a child then CPR is always a good
tool to know because it helps to save lives against cardiac arrest,
chocking and drowning. The AHA and Red Cross website provides many
options and makes it easy to figure out the type of course you wish to
take.
There are hundreds of organizations and
individuals who are certified to give CPR training and the certificate
that accompanies it. But gaining a card that proves you went through the
motions is not always sufficient. Almost anyone can receive a CPR class
but it is not the card that will help you to save a life but the
experience and training in the classroom. There is no government agency
that regulates CPR instructors and not all CPR certificates are accepted
everywhere, which is why it is important to do some research into the
course you will be taking. The American Heart Association is the only
certificate that is accepted in all hospitals and medical agencies with
the American Red Cross close behind.[1] Both of these organizations
provide local courses in most fields of healthcare.
